Let’s Keep Talking! The role film culture can play in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict

As a sign against the current escalation of the happenings in Crimea and between Russia and Ukraine and Russia and the Western international community respectively, goEast organises a panel discussion at the beginning of the festival week: The festival invites its festival guests from Russia and Ukraine to a dialogue.

Apart from the approach of politicians, who operate following formalised patterns of action, agents of the cultural branch can use other channels and strategies contributing to both maintaining and reinitiating exchange. The panel wants to bank on dialogue – thereby countering a language of escalation. Assessments of the conflict as it is seen through the eyes of the film makers are supposed to be part of the discussion. Moreover, measures taken from within the cultural scenes in the respective countries, which are aiming at showing solidarity with the democratic forces, shall be introduced.
