Film Profile
Harmonika / Harmonika
85-year-old accordion player, Maestro Rexhep Karaça, the Roma minority member has a lifetime experience of playing the accordion. He is not just a musician; he is a living history, as he will tell you about different people he played for as the regimes would change in the turmoiled Balkans. He remembers playing for King Zog in Tirana, were his father bought his accordion, which he still plays today. He speaks of his Hungarian teacher, and about the musical preferences of the German SS officers, of Italian soldiers, members of the Communist regime and recently, the many internationals in post-conflict Kosova. The film combines the artistic and documental approaches.
