Film Profile

/ Wedding in Bessarabia

Just married Conductor (30) and Ballerina (25) are waiting for a baby and need their home to live together. They don’t have the money to buy it, so they decide to get married again in her native Bessarabia*, where they could receive rich presents in cash (*Bessarabia is the old name, used by Romanians and Russians, of the actual Republic of Moldova. Bessarabia is now in fact the place where the new European Union meets the former Soviet Union). The second wedding becomes a competition between the two sides: Romanians and Bessarabians. Different habits, traditions, political backgrounds, points of reference and specific behaviors compete against each other. Caught in between, the groom and the bride are soon to discover that their instinct, education and vanity are naturally emerging to fade their love. At the end of the wedding they get the money but they are to re-consider their love. From now on, the end of the story is told by their kid: ”My Dad is traveling all over Europe as a conductor, my Mom is a famous ballerina in the former Soviet Union. They meet every year to see me, at my grand-parents in Bessarabia”.
