THE CRIME THAT CHANGED SERBIA

VIDIMO SE U ČITULJ / THE CRIME THAT CHANGED SERBIA

People involved in organized crime were among those who benefited from the wars in former Yugoslavia. In Serbia, various rival gangs established a shadow economy during the mid-1990s. It was tolerated or even welcomed by the state. Janko Baljak describes a culture of violence and corruption never before so openly explored. Normally, the interviewees would have insisted on anonymity – here they are proud enough to appear before the camera. Three protagonists were murdered during the making of the film.
