FIRST PRIZEWINNERS AT GOEAST

Late on the evening of Saturday, 25 April, the names of the first prizewinners at the 2009 goEast – Festival of Central and Eastern Film were unveiled after the votes cast by the Wiesbaden audience were counted in the three categories of the goEast Students’ Competition. The prize in the Documentary category went to the Ukrainian film COMMEMORATION DAY / RADUNYTSJA by Roman Bondarchuk. First prize in the Animation and Experimental Film section was given to THE AIR ACE / VAZDUSHNIYAT AS by Svilen Dmitrov (Bulgaria). The audience vote for best short film was won by SEMEYNA TERAPIJA / FAMILY THERAPY by Petar Valtchanov (Bulgaria).

Yesterday’s audiences found themselves swept away by the music of the Andrzej Jagodzinski Trio and its interpretations of film scores by Krzysztof Komeda-Trzciński. The documentary KOMEDA AND HIS TIMES is screening today at 15.00 in the Kulturpalast, while the impressive Polanski – Komedia exhibition of film posters remains on view in Bellevue-Saal up to the end of the festival.

A goEast Matinee with Jan and Zdenek Svĕrák is taking place in the Caligari cinema. The father-and-son team will be talking to Erika Gregor about their joint film projects and social developments in the Czech Republic since the Velvet Revolution. The interview is followed by the screening of KOLYA, Jan Svĕrák’s most successful film to date.
