V SUBBOTU / INNOCENT SATURDAY

At first glance the story seems to be about a town and its citizens on an ordinary Saturday. Although an accident happened nearby and many emergency vehicles are on the road life goes on as usual. Even a wedding proceeds undisturbed with a band constantly playing and celebrating with the guests. Yet nobody knows that a reactor tower in Tschernobyl exploded in the early morning since, for the present, the government decided to keep the incident a secret. Therefore the day takes its course like nothing happened. Only gradually the people realize something is really wrong. INNOCENT SATURDAYS was selected for competition of this years Berlinale and is an oppressive portray about love, betrayal and the feelings, friendships, and disappointments of various characters.
