THE CRUISE

REJS / THE CRUISE

A stowaway, of all people, is the activities co-ordinator who rules a cruise ship with a rod of iron. His activities reflect the behavioural stereotypes and ideologies of the communist system. The mood is grotesque, the dialogue surreal, the figures conspicuous for their opportunism and latent thirst for power – and political metaphors never far away. Made in the form of a Happening using mainly non-professional actors, the deliberate amateurishness of the film makes it all the more provocative. Initially banned, and subsequently cut, REJS / THE CRUISE became an insider’s tip and cult favourite.
