Lecture: Jaroslav Rudiš

Ole, aged 40, used to be a punk musician with an eye for the ladies, and now runs the Helsinki, a smoky bar in an east German city. When his bar is forced to close, Ole makes a journey back through time back to the darkest period in his life. In 1987 he and his girlfriend Nancy tried to flee over the GDR’s “green” border with Czechoslovakia in order to reach the West. Nancy was killed in the process… The successful Czech author Jaroslav Rudiš reads (in German) from his fourth novel Vom Ende des Punks in Helsinki. Since the sensational screen adaptation of his graphic novel Alois Nebel, the author’s name has been well-known to fans of Central and Eastern European film.
